The tale of two momentums. Utah is playing as well as any team in the league. They are not considered a good defensive team but they are pretty damn good establishing their tempo and also versatile enough to adjust to other temps when they have to. They have a great leader in Deron Williams and one of the better coaches out there. About Sloan, do we take him for granted? I mean if he wasn't Jerry freaking Sloan he would have at least 3 COY awards in the last 10 years. How did this happen?

Oh well, the other -Denver - is sinking as a rock. They totally lost their mojo when coach Karl went down and lost their toughest guy when KMart went down. Their are getting Martin back but no their mojo. I'm impressed how a team with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups can look so off in an important stretch of the season. I liked this team. For my money if they had gone for an extra big in February ( Camby, Thomas, Collison ) they would have been right there with the Lakers ( even higher considering how the Lakers are playing these days) but they did nothing and now they look like a first round exit. What a shame.

Utah have their own issues with injuries. Kirilenko won't play this series and Okur still hurt but he is scheduled to be in uniform. Carlos Boozer got his rib cage hurt or something like that. He is a big guy, I'm not even considering him being injured. How much of the momentum was killed by their last game lost of the season, the ass kicking Phoenix gave them, at home no less.

Denver and Utah are 500 road teams. Denver has come advantage and without Utah's Kirilenko there is really nobody who can stay with Carmelo. To be honest this is a toss-up and I'm thinking of giving the series to Denver just caused of the Kirilenko injury and the fact that I'm relying on Chauncey to have a good series matching somehow the damage Deron Williams is going to inflict on them.

Four franchise players. Its 1984 all over again and as in 1984 the redoing of this class changes everything! Cleveland get Lebron but the Pistons come away with Dwayne Wade, basically taking away the 2006 title from the Heat and Shaq’s fourth title. What Detroit does with Wade? Bring him off the bench? We all know Wade was ready to be a impact player in year one, does Larry Brown plays him? Do the trade him? I’m guessing both Dumars and Brown would realize what they have in hands and do the right thing (Trading Rip after a year or two). Kaman goes to the Heat (no more Shaq) and Perkins take Kaman’s spot in the Clippers (Sorry Kendrick. Sorry Celtics)

A 50 win team must have done some things pretty damn good, right? Even if they are a 8th seed. Welcome to the Western Conference Playoffs

The Nuggets are going to need their entire arsenal to pull the "chocker" and that might even not be enough. The Lakers easily owned the Nuggets in the regular season scoring 118 points per game in three contests. Lesson of the day: Don't try to outrun the Lakers. If you are thinking "Well, if this series becomes a track meet it's advantage Nuggets". You will be wrong. The Lakers can also put up points in the scoreboard in a hurry but, unlike the Nuggets, they can make stops when they need them. Since the Gasol trade the Lakers are as powerful offensevely as any other team in the West.Their defense, ball movement and leadership will set the difference specially at the Pepsi Center where the Nuggets are 33-8 (Only fourth best in the West. Again, welcome to the Western Conference Playoffs) And they have that Kobe fella that can be pretty hard to defend. Kobe will spent a great deal of energy defeding Melo and/or Iverson so he needs to rely in his teammates ( This is in Kobe's hands right now . The rest of the Lakers have prove that they are trust worthy. In the big stage Kobe might regress a little, might not)

The Nuggets can outscore LA make no mistake about it but they will need A) 45-50 points between Melo and Iverson, B) Strong play from the benchaka JR Smith and C) A unbelievable defensive series from KMart and Camby. The likehood of all those factors coming together is quite high. Denver can play at a very high level but their key for them will be stopping LA's ball movement, force turnovers and run like hell.

X Factor: KMart. If he has his bounce back it gives Denver a very effective third option at offense and a defensive presence. Nobody (uninjured) in LA can defend a healthy KMart although his numbers against LA's defense were very poor in the regular season: 8.0 ppg, .451 FG%, 8.3 rpg, 2.0 bpg
