The kids aren't alright. The 96 Draft Class. Part I

I was making a comment on The fresh blog of basketball, where Sit, the blogger, made a do-over of the 96 draft, then I realized that class was really something else, and that's not necessary a good thing: Three of the mayor headaches of this generation are from this class. Some pretty decent players were selected here too, as well asa bunch of big men who couldn't play. Let's check the lottery picks:

Allen Iverson

1. Philly: Allen Iverson (27.9 ppg , 6,2 apg , 2,3 spg , 9.2 FTpg )

Good Stuff:

  • 2001 MVP,
  • 8 Time All-Star,
  • 7 Time All NBA (3 First All NBA),
  • 3 Time Steal Champ,
  • 4 Time Scoring Champ

Bad Stuff:

  • In 1993 spent 4 months in prison due to a brawl. Sometime after that he was found in a car with a dude and a lot of weed, but nothing happened.

  • He never practices

  • In 2000, he decided that he could rap, named himself Jewel, and said very bad things about gays and females. David Stern didn’t like, I think he is more into music that doesn’t induce to commit hate crimes

  • In 2002, he was charged with assault with a gun and trespassing among other charges. All of this while he was looking for his missing wife, who was kicked out of her home, butt naked, by Iverson

  • In the end of 2006, he “hinted” he wanted to be traded. The Sixers sent him home and after 6 inactive games and like two weeks of doing nothing at home, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets. After the trade went down, he said that he never asked to be traded. Cute!

2. Raptors: Marcus Camby (10.9 ppg , 9.3 rbp, 2.6 bpg )

Good Stuff:

  • 2007 DPOY
  • 3 Time Blocks Champ,
  • 3 Time All Defensive (2 Time First All Defense),

Bad Stuff:

  • Have only played 616 games out of 902 possible (67%)

3. Grizzlies: Shareef Abdur-Rahim (18.2 ppg , 7,6 rpg)

Good Stuff:

  • 2002 All Star

Bad Stuff:

  • He removed his tattoo because he didn't want to give his little brother a bad example. Is this good or bad?

4. Seattle: Ray Allen (21.5 ppg, .888 FT%, .397 3PFG% )

Good Stuff:

  • 7 Time All Star
  • Starred as Jesus Shuttlesworth in the 1998 movie He Got Game. I liked the movie, sorry.

Bad Stuff:

Stephon Marbury

5. T’Wolves: Stephon Marbury (19.9 ppg, 7,9 apg, 3.2 TOpg)

Good Stuff:

  • 2 Time All NBA,
  • 2 Time All Star
  • He's not a bad person, just nota smart one.

Bad Stuff:

  • During 1999 season he asked to be traded, because Garnett was making more money than him

  • In 2002, he was arrested for DUI ( Driving a Ferrari )

  • During the 2005 - 06 season, he dedicated himself to fight Larry Brown, instead of trying to win some games. Larry Brown never liked the guy, and the both could be more mature and professional and handle this behind close doors and not give us all this crap, but a little respect is due to your coach, especially if it is Larry Brown. After 23 wins in 82 games, he had the Hall of Fame coach fired

  • This past July he called out Jordan and said to him: "stop making money"

  • Last month he said that he wants to play in Italy when his Knicks' contract expires, comparing himself in the process with David Beckham and his media power (I'm guessing...). There’s nothing wrong with Italy, but you can't say you have plans when you contract expires in 2 years, you can have them, but you don’t talk about them. You are supposed to be thinking TEAM and stuff like that.

  • This Interview. WTF! One would thought people learned something from Tom Cruise Oh, the humanity!
